Description
Lomo de La Jara Recreational Area is located at an altitude of over 900 metres, on the northern slopes of the island, hence its typically cool climate.
It lies in a humid forest with a mixture of typical monteverde vegetation, such as faya (Morella faya), tree heath (Erica arborea) and acebiño (Ilex canariensis), and Monterey pine (Pinus radiata) and eucalyptus that were introduced to restore the deforested lands to their former state.
Vehicle access to the recreational area is via a dirt track.
Near the recreational area is a ravine named Barranco de Toledo, in which the monteverde woodland is at its most splendid, with the ancient viñatigo trees (Persea indica) a standout feature. You can also spot species such as Bolle’s pigeon, robins, goldcrests and blue tits.
This recreational area is well connected by footpaths and signposted tracks for bicycle and horse riding, and recreational tracks for motor vehicles.
The Agua García Heritage Information Centre is located near the recreational area.
