How to get around in Tenerife

Bus service

The Tenerife bus network is managed by the public company, TITSA.

Their buses, or guaguas as they call them in the Canaries, reach every corner of the island.  They are easy to spot because of their bright green colour.

There are 2 easy ways to pay:

1. Buy a single ticket when you get on the bus.
2. Validate your trip using a prepaid card for multiple journeys, or TEN+ APP.

This second option is cheaper than a single ticket and can also be used on the metropolitan tram line.

There is another private company, La Esperanza transport network, which offers a regular service between the centre of La Laguna and the neighbourhoods of El Rosario, including La Esperanza, Las Barredas and Las Rosas.

Tramway service

The metropolitan areas of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristobal de La Laguna are connected by the tramway, which is managed by the public company Metropolitano de Tenerife.

There are two lines:

1. The longer line connects the urban centres of Santa Cruz and La Laguna, has 21 stops and takes 41 minutes. 
2. The shorter line connects the neighbourhoods of La Cuesta and Tincer, has 7 stops and takes around 10 minutes.

At every tram stop you will find a ticket machine which is shared with the bus network. You must validate your ticket when you board.

Taxi service

Every municipality in Tenerife has its own taxi association.

Taxis are white with a strip of colour or an emblem on the side, depending on the area it belongs to.  

All companies adhere to official island rates, and each taxi is equipped with a meter which will be turned on when the journey begins.

It is also possible to hire a taxi for an excursion, agreeing the fee in advance.
