Description
This trail runs along the upper section of an old footpath from La Guancha, San Juan de La Rambla and Icod el Alto.
It links the PNT 01 trail (La Fortaleza) at the foot of the westernmost ridges near the edge of the National Park with the PNT 22 trail (Lomo Hurtado) that descends from Montaña Blanca.
The route runs past the foot of the steep slopes of Mount Teide and skirts the volcanic cone known as Montaña Negra. Although its name means “black mountain” it is in fact brownish-grey owing to oxidation.
The upper reaches of the trail are populated by dense thickets of broom that give way to a Canary Island pine forest on the lower stretch, which is still recovering after the forest fire of 2007.
