PR TF 35.1 Casa del Agua - Pinolere

Several large specimens in an area dotted with old faya (Morella faya) and tree heath (Erica arborea). They are draped in lichens and mosses. The acebiños are trifurcated (with three main limbs) and have numerous suckers growing from them.

Pinolere is a small village nestled in verdant woodland with a history shaped by the deep bond of its 700 inhabitants with the land, in terms of both the importance of agriculture and deep-rooted traditions such as charcoal making and basket weaving. It is surrounded by barrancos, or ravines (Quirirá, La Arena and La Hondura), and visitors will be struck by the traditional old buildings that can still be seen here.

This pine tree is home to epiphytes such as lichens (Usnea) and hare’s-foot fern (Davalliacanariensis), which are indicators of high humidity levels.

This Ethnographic Museum was inaugurated in 2002 and recreates the popular culture, history and customs of this area in the highlands of the north of Tenerife. The museum has a threshing floor, various traditional houses, corrals with chickens and rabbits, a vegetable garden with medicinal plants and its characteristic thatched huts, traditional buildings that were once used as dwellings and are now used as exhibition rooms. A meticulous replica of a traditional “venta” (shop) is another of its interesting features.
