Description
La Caldera Campsite is located in the upper reaches of the Orotava Valley, at an altitude of over 1,200 metres, where fog and cool temperatures are common.
It is a wooded area dominated by Canary Island pines, mixed with monteverde species and stone pines, maritime pines and Aleppo pines.
An outstanding feature is the old volcanic crater, which has remained bare amidst so much vegetation. According to the locals, no trees have ever grown there, perhaps because it is often waterlogged.
The area is quite popular thanks to its easy access by road, the fact that it is served by public transport, and the many signposted walking, cycling and horse-riding routes that begin or continue here.
The camping area adjoins the recreational area offering a range of services.
Tips
- Enjoy the local plant and animal life without disturbing it. Be curious but from a safe and respectful distance.
- Follow the rules and instructions on the signs to avoid disturbance to people and animals.
- Keep the environment clean and leave no litter behind. Rubbish and cigarette butts must be disposed of in the designated containers.
- Travel in small groups to keep noise pollution and the impact on the environment to a minimum.
- Use the water in the toilets and taps responsibly. Water is a scarce and precious commodity on our island.
