Description
This popular trail takes you to the Escurriales viewpoint, where you can view Tenerife’s famous Lunar Landscape and its fairy chimneys.
The route sets off from Plaza Obispo Pérez Cáceres and heads along Camino del Atajo, which forms part of the old Camino Real de Chasna, an ancient thoroughfare linking the north and south of the island.
Once in the pine forest, you will pass by Casa Galindo on the edge of Barranco de Las Mesas. You then cross this ravine to continue uphill along Camino de Chasna, with magnificent views of the summit.
On your way you will pass by the famous Pino Gordo pine tree, which takes 7 people to hug. Opposite is the lesser known Pino de las dos Pernas, probably the tallest endemic tree in Spain.
On the descent you will arrive at the Los Escurriales viewpoint, which overlooks the Lunar Landscape. From here you can admire the famous fairy chimneys, curious structures created by erosion of the volcanic soil.
The trail then connects with a path that runs alongside Casa de Los Llanitos and takes you back to Vilaflor on the same path you took on the way up.
To preserve this natural marvel of Tenerife and in view of the pressure from high visitor numbers, when you visit the Los Escurriales viewpoint and its surroundings, please do not walk on the lunar landscape.
