Description
This trail runs through a monteverde forest in a perfect state of conservation as a result of the natural protection provided by the Barranco del Guirre ravine.
The trail is popularly known as the “Ruta del Agua” (Water Route) due to the ancient galleries found along it. You will also be able to see small hollows that were dug to collect water along the path, as well as a spring that emerges between the basalt and the soil.
With such humidity, it is not surprising that fayal-brezal (Morella-Erica heath) species predominate here, with specimens of faya and tree heath (Erica arborea) so tall and robust that they form a dense canopy of vegetation at some points along the path.
The route begins where it turns off the main SL TF 151 trail (Ruigómez -Erjos) at Pista del Guirre, where you should take the traditional footpath into the forest.
When you leave the woodland behind, continue climbing until you reach the centre of San José de Los Llanos. Continue along Avenida de Venezuela, cross the village and pass by the church of San José to reach the San José de los Llanos Recreational Area, where the route ends.
