Description
This short section runs along the final part of Camino del Socorro, a historic route with the status of Asset of Cultural Interest that is used by participants in the Romería del Socorro pilgrimage that takes place every year in the early hours of 7 to 8 September.
The trail starts at the bridge over the TF-1 motorway (Autopista del Sur), and descends Camino del Socorro, skirting the Güímar industrial estate. The imposing Montaña Grande rises up on your right and dominates the landscape behind you for the rest of the way.
As you walk you will see tabaiba (Euphorbia balsamifera, Euphorbia lamarckii) and cardón or Canary Island spurge (Euphorbia canariensis), plants that have established a foothold in this rugged, volcanic terrain. There is also a wide variety of reptiles, insects and, above all, migratory birds.
This trail will offer you the chance to explore for yourself a significant part of Camino del Socorro, one of Tenerife’s most historically and culturally significant routes.
When you reach Llano de la Virgen at the end of the trail, at Chimisay Beach, you can celebrate in style by sampling the wide range of services that the coastal town of Playa del Socorro has to offer.
