The Tenerife Island Council has issued a reminder that all trails affected by the fire are off-limits.
The Tenerife Island Council has reiterated the importance of complying with the restrictions in force due to the forest fire currently affecting the island, and stresses that the situation is not yet under control.
The Council has stressed the need to exercise caution and to respect the measures in place to ensure the safety of the population and the firefighting teams.
These are the measures currently in force in the area affected by the fire:
- Access prohibited. Access is prohibited on tracks and trails, and all cross-country routes, in the area affected by the fire. This measure applies in the municipalities of Fasnia, Güímar, Arafo, Candelaria, El Rosario, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava and Los Realejos.
- Recreational areas and camping areas are off-limits. The use of recreational areas and camping areas within the fire safety perimeter continues to be prohibited.
- Fires are forbidden. Outdoor fires, including campfires, open fires, barbecues, gas cookers, etc., are prohibited in the area affected by the fire.
- Pyrotechnic displays are forbidden. Fireworks displays and other pyrotechnics are also restricted in the area.
Consult the conditions for the rest of the island.
These measures apply in the areas affected by the fire. For the rest of the island, you should always consult the status of the alerts and incidents; this information is published on Tenerife ON.
The forest fire, which has affected a perimeter of approximately 90 kilometres, continues to be a cause for concern for the authorities, especially due to the high temperatures, which have topped 34 degrees in the last few days, and the wind, with gusts of close to 40 km/h.
These weather conditions have hindered firefighting efforts and have contributed to fires breaking out again within the perimeter.
As a result, the Island Council has insisted on these restrictions being implemented to guarantee the safety of all people, both residents and workers involved in firefighting operations, and in cleaning up and removing material from the tracks and trails.
Entering the areas affected by the fire is still very dangerous, for you and for the rest of the people fighting to control it.
The Island Council also stresses that the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) is still in place to coordinate the necessary actions in this situation. We therefore recommend that you always stay fully informed and comply with the precautionary measures in force at all times while the authorities continue to work to control and completely extinguish the forest fire.
Your cooperation is the best help that you can give to stop this fire.
On behalf of Tenerife ON, thank you for respecting the restrictions in place!
