New Control and Safety Measures for Hiking up Mount Teide
This decision has been made due to the need to ensure safety and environmental protection in response to the growing number of visitors
The Island Council of Tenerife has issued a resolution with provisional and urgent measures to strengthen the monitoring, supervision, and control of visitors hiking the trails of the Teide stratovolcano.
Key measures include:
🔹 Mandatory prior reservation through the Tenerife ON website or app to access the trails:
- PNT 07 Montaña Blanca - La Rambleta.
- PNT 09 Teide - Pico Viejo - Mirador de las Narices del Teide.
- PNT 23 Los Regatones Negros.
- PNT 28 Chafarí.
🔹 Ascent to Pico del Teide via the PNT 10 Telesforo Bravo trail requires a separate reservation.
🔹 Requirement to show control staff the documentation proving the identity of the person who made the reservation.
🔹 Fines of up to 600 euros for those who access without the corresponding reservation, with additional increases in case of search, rescue, or salvage operations.
🔹 Mandatory requirements for proper clothing and equipment to ensure visitor safety:
- Long pants (worn or in backpack) and a fleece jacket.
- Closed mountain-appropriate footwear.
- Sufficient water and hydrating liquids.
- Mobile phone with adequate battery charge.
- Flashlight or headlamp with batteries.
- In winter, gloves and a hat.
- Equipment may be inspected by staff, and access may be denied if the requirements are not met.
🔹 Possibility of temporary trail closures in case of adverse weather conditions.
🔹 Specific reservations for expert mountaineers in situations of ice or snow, requiring a responsible declaration provided on the Tenerife ON platform.
