Tenerife ON Publishes a New Trail in Adeje
Explore the Tradition and Beauty of Camino de la Virgen in the South of the Island
Tenerife ON is pleased to announce the addition of a new trail in the south of the island, in the municipality of Adeje.
This trail, called Camino de la Virgen, broadens the range of routes on offer in Adeje, providing an experience that combines history and nature.
Also known as Camino de la Encarnación, this footpath is ideal for walking in the early hours of the day or at dusk, when the sunlight enhances the reddish colour of the terrain. The trail owes its name to the annual procession in which the inhabitants of Adeje carry the Virgen de la Encarnación (Our Lady of the Incarnation) from La Enramada to the chapel of Santa Úrsula de la Villa, a tradition that began in the 16th century to protect the statue of the Virgin Mary from pirate attacks.
The trail begins at the gate that provides access from the Fañabé – La Caleta road and heads out under open skies in the direction of the coast.
On the way you will also come across a stop where pilgrims pray to the Virgin Mary on their way and, further on, the place known as Humilladero, where, according to tradition, Our Lady of the Incarnation first appeared.
The route ends at La Enramada, just a short walk from the Adeje coast.
This new trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the history and natural beauty of the Adeje coast, combining religious festivity with stunning coastal scenery. We hope you enjoy this new route in Tenerife ON and discover all that Camino de la Virgen has to offer!
