European Day of Parks: Celebrating Nature and its Conservation
24 May is a special day in Europe for nature lovers
It is the European Day of Parks. This day commemorates a milestone in the history of environmental conservation: on 24 May 1909, Sweden created the first nature parks in Europe.
Since 1999, this day has been celebrated by the EUROPARC Federation, a pan-European organisation created in 1973 that brings together nature conservation institutions and protected natural areas from 38 countries. The slogan for the 2024 edition is “Vote for Nature!”, highlighting the importance of protecting our ecosystems.
In Tenerife, we have four parks:
These protected natural areas are rich in biodiversity and essential for preserving the environmental assets of the island. Conservation of these parks is crucial to ensure that they survive and can be enjoyed by future generations.
Let us celebrate together the European Day of Parks and pledge to take care of our natural landscapes so that they can continue to be havens for wildlife and places of inspiration for all of us.
